What The Heart Wants: An Urban Love Story
Publication date: 03/02/2016
Publisher: Leo Sullivan Presents
PEN’Ashe Magazine: How did you come up with your title?
A: It was originally titled ‘It’s Your Love That Holds Me Together’, but since it seemed a bit long, I shortened it. I feel like that title suits the story better. But the new title, ‘What The Heart Wants’ is great as well. It’s a story of two best friends. One of the two is secretly in love with the other.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: Are any of the character’s experiences based on someone you know, or your own life?
A: No. My characters were created solely from my imagination.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: How much of the book is realistic?
A: I’d say 98% of it is realistic. There is a lot of violence and drug dealing going on that realistically, wouldn’t be so easy to get away with.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: Is there a message in your novel that you want your readers to grasp?
A: Not necessarily. Its only part one to the series; by the end there will definitely be a message in it.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: If you had to do it all over again would you change anything in your book?
PEN’Ashe Magazine: How did you come up with the plot?
A: My fiancé gave me an idea for a main character and I ran with it.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: What was the hardest part of writing your book?
A: One of my main character’s use pills for recreational use. The hardest part about that was capturing the feelings the pill gives since I’ve never done it.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: Did you learn anything from your characters while writing your book? What was it?
A: I learned how important accountability is. I have a hard time apologizing and owning up to my wrong doings.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: Do you have anything specific you want to say to your readers?
A: Thank you! As always, I love my readers; they are absolutely amazing.
PEN’Ashe Magazine: What were some of the challenges in bringing it to life?
A: The pill addiction thing. I spent a lot of time on Google with this one. Lol
PEN’Ashe Magazine: How would you describe your book to someone who has not read your book or any of your previous novels?
A: I would describe it as being different. I hear that my work is different from what’s being published today. Someone also told me they get that old school Urban Fiction feel from my books. I would describe this series as being original and edgy; Gritty and sexy.
